Amtrak #6, the Eastbound California Zephyr approaching Pinole as it runs along San Pablo Bay. The #289 was, at one time, equipped with SP style icicle breakers but, by 1987, they had been removed.
Although the coaches were still steam heated, the Reno Fun Train is led by a new F40. Trailing are two SDP40F's for additional motive power and steam heat.
The inbound Desert Wind coasts to a stop at Pasadena Station. The number on the right side of the engine adjacent to the headlight looks like a stenciled replacement.
